Hide Folders 6.1.1 Download for Windows

Protecting sensitive data is a critical concern for every computer user. Hide Folders provides a robust, multi-layered security utility for Windows systems. This application goes beyond the basic Windows “Hidden” attribute, making your private files and folders completely inaccessible and invisible to unauthorized users, even in Safe Mode.

The software offers five distinct protection methods, giving you granular control over data access. While the core function is simple folder concealment, the underlying technology supports all major Windows file systems, including NTFS, FAT32, and exFAT. This makes it a powerful tool for securing confidential documents and media on local drives.

Hide Folders Quick Start

Configure Trusted Processes Whitelist

  1. Launch Hide Folders and enter your Master Password.
  2. Navigate to the Settings menu.
  3. Select Security from the left-hand pane.
  4. Click on the Trusted Processes List tab.
  5. Use the Add button to browse for and select the executable file (.exe) of the program you wish to whitelist.
  6. Confirm the addition and click Apply to save the changes.

Why: Whitelisting specific executables prevents critical system utilities or backup programs from being blocked by the folder protection mechanism. This maintains data integrity and ensures your hidden files are included in automated backups.

Features

  • Five Protection Methods: Users can select from five distinct security states: Hide, Lock, Hide & Lock, Read Only, and No Execute. This flexibility allows for precise control over how other users or applications can interact with the protected data.
  • Safe Mode Protection: Hidden folders remain completely concealed and protected even if the operating system is booted into Windows Safe Mode. This prevents advanced users from bypassing the security measures through alternative boot environments.
  • Protected Uninstall: The application prevents the accidental or malicious uninstallation of the software from revealing the hidden folders. The protected data remains secure until the user explicitly unhides it within the program.
  • Trusted Processes Whitelist: A Trusted Processes option allows administrators to specify programs that are permitted to access the protected data, even when the protection is active. This is essential for running legitimate backup utilities or antivirus scans on hidden files.
  • Broad File System Support: The utility supports all major Windows file systems, including NTFS, FAT32, exFAT, and FAT volumes. This ensures comprehensive compatibility across various drive types and partitions.
