Does KbdEdit require a background service to keep my keyboard remappings active?

No. KbdEdit creates and registers standard native Windows keyboard layout DLLs directly in the operating system, meaning layouts stay active without running external background tools.

Can KbdEdit reassign keys that are missing on compact or laptop keyboards?

Yes. You can swap unused or redundant keys, such as Right Alt or Caps Lock, to function as missing keys like Menu, Right Ctrl, or specialized navigation buttons.
