Quick Start DVDFab
Optimizing Ripper Output Quality (2-Pass Encoding)
- Load your source disc and select the Ripper module.
- Click the little wrench icon (Advanced Settings) next to the profile selection.
- In the Video tab, locate the Encoding Method option.
- Change the setting from 1-Pass to 2-Pass.
- Adjust the Bitrate or Bits/Pixel setting to your desired level for maximum quality.
Why: Using 2-Pass encoding significantly improves the quality of the final video file by allowing the encoder to analyze the video content during the first pass and apply optimal compression settings during the second. This is crucial for preserving detail in high-motion scenes.
Configuring Default Output Destination
- Click the Triangle Button near the top right corner of the Main Interface.
- Select Common Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Navigate to the General section in the left sidebar.
- Under Output Directory, click the folder icon to set a new default path for all ripped and converted files.
Why: Setting a dedicated output directory prevents files from cluttering your system drive (C:\) and ensures all your digitized media is saved to a single, easily accessible location, such as a network drive or media server folder.
Enabling GPU Hardware Acceleration
- Click the Triangle Button near the top right corner of the Main Interface.
- Select Common Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Navigate to the General section and select the A/V Codec tab.
- Under Hardware Acceleration, ensure your compatible GPU (NVIDIA CUDA, AMD APP, or Intel Quick Sync) is selected and enabled.
Why: Hardware acceleration offloads the intensive video processing tasks from your CPU to your dedicated graphics card. This dramatically reduces conversion times, often speeding up the ripping and conversion process by several hundred percent.
